Introduction

LED strip lights have become increasingly popular as more people choose them over traditional bulbs for their lighting needs. They are an excellent option for locations such as staircases or driveways, where you want to avoid the hassle of changing bulbs every few years.

If you've started searching for LED strip lighting for your next project, you may have encountered some familiar numbers representing specific types of LED lights.

Before you decide which one to purchase, it's important to understand the differences among the 5050 and 2835 types in order to determine which product best suits your needs.

In this article, we will discuss these two types of LED strip lights and how they compare in terms of size and brightness (both indoor and outdoor).

Understanding the 5050 LED Chip

The 5050 LED is one of the most commonly used sizes and is suitable for a variety of applications. It has a maximum operating temperature of 70°C, making it suitable for outdoor use.

Its minimum operating temperature is -25°C, and at this point in its lifespan, it delivers 35 lumens per watt. However, you should expect this number to decline as the LED ages, meaning it will emit less light over time than when it was new.

The 5050 LED also has features that make it ideal for outdoor use: it has an IP65 rating (which means it can withstand immersion in water), is resistant to butane (there are no ventilation openings required in your light fixture), and has low power consumption (~5W).

The 2835 LED Chip

The 2835 is a common size for LED strip lights, slightly larger than the 5050 and smaller than other configurations, giving it more light output and allowing for broader application.
